Hello, I am Mariia (Marusia) Pronina.

I do research in experimental linguistics as a Juan de la Cierva postdoc researcher at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) within the Research Group on Sociolinguistics in the Balearic Islands.

I am fascinated by how children come to develop language. In my research, I try to understand how language is acquired under different circumstances. My current postdoc project focuses on heritage language acquisition in multilingual context. I have also collaborated on studies involving children with neurodevelopmental disorders. I approach first language acquisition from a multimodal perspective, looking at prosody and gesture.

I teach masters’ courses on applied linguistics and methods in the UIB.

Together with Rebecca Woods I’m running an online discussion group Making Waves on the acquisition of prosody and gesture. You’re very welcome to join us — you can check out our website for upcoming seminars and recordings of past meetings.
